Police were called to a north London hotel after X Factor contestants who were staying there became rowdy and damaged property on Friday.

Staff at Wembley's Premier Inn called police at about 0130 BST to deal with the group of the talent show hopefuls.

Contestants, who had made it through to the boot camp stage of the show, had been celebrating after rehearsals.

It was the last night before they found out who had made it through to the next stage of the contest.

Rowdy guests

An X Factor spokesman said: "Contestants had an opportunity to relax after a week of intense rehearsal and performance.

"We have spoken to the individuals concerned, who have apologised for their behaviour."

A Scotland Yard spokesman said police were called to a minor disturbance at the hotel.

Staff said they were concerned that they could not control a group of rowdy guests.

The police spokesman said officers were satisfied they were not needed and left around 15 minutes later.

Television chiefs have offered to cover the costs of fixing the damage caused.
