Louth and Horncastle Conservative candidate chosen

A candidate has been chosen to replace veteran MP Sir Peter Tapsell, who will stand down in 2015.

Victoria Atkins was adopted as the Conservative candidate for Louth and Horncastle following a public vote on Monday evening.

The criminal barrister, who currently lives in Gloucestershire, said she was "thrilled, elated and honoured" to have been chosen.

Sir Peter is Father of the House, having served as an MP since 1966.

At the last General Election he had a majority of 14,000.

Mrs Atkins beat three other candidates at a hustings attended by more than 200 residents.

She said she would move up to the area with her family as soon as possible.
