Arts campaigner and fundraiser recognised in Birthday Honours list

Eddy Double Eddy Double said he was surprised but pleased to be honoured

An arts campaigner and fundraiser for the Teenage Cancer Trust are among people from Lincolnshire named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Eddy Double, 81, of Sleaford, will receive a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the community.

Ann Stafford, 55, will also receive a BEM for charitable services through the Lincoln Lions Club.

Petronella Gerarda Keeling, 67, of Spalding, will become a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).

Mr Double has been involved with various sporting and outdoor groups.

He also led a campaign to have a sculpture by William Lasdun created in Sleaford to mark the building of the Sleaford Navigation, which opened in 1794 and connected the town to the River Witham.

'Outstanding contribution'

He said he was pleased to receive the honour but was unsure what he had done.

"I've been chairman of Sleaford and District Civil Trust for 15 years, but largely because I can't persuade anyone to take over," he said.

Mrs Stafford has worked with the Lions charity for more than 10 years and organised many events.

Mrs Keeling was the founder of Action Medical Research in Lincolnshire.

She has taken part and championed fundraising for more than 45 years and is being recognised for her "outstanding contribution" and for being an "ambassador" for the charity.

Mrs Sunita Dinesh Mason, of Lincoln, will become a Dame Commander for services to public protection.

OBEs have also been conferred on Maurice Chappell for services to education, Andrew Ward for farming resilience, Dr Yvonne Owen for services to public health and Cherry Edwards for services to education.
