Job losses as Rakon closes Lincoln factory

Rakon site in Lincoln Production will move from Lincoln to Auckland, New Zealand

A manufacturing firm is to close its factory in Lincoln with the loss of 85 jobs.

Rakon Limited, which makes specialist equipment for the telecommunications industry, is to transfer the jobs overseas.

The Sadler Road facility is expected to remain open for the next six months to enable orders to be fulfilled.

Business unit manager Phillip Davies said the Lincoln site had been profitable for many years.

However, he said: "Globally we've got too much capacity, and the work that was done here will be transferred to New Zealand."

The announcement follows a consultation with staff.
