A £3.4m project to relieve congestion on a Lincoln road has been announced.
The county council said two junctions on Canwick Road - at Washingborough Road and South Park Avenue - would be improved.
The authority confirmed it would provide £1.6m, with the rest coming from the government, and work could start "within months".
Some nearby businesses said they were worried about the disruption, however.
Lincoln MP Karl McCartney said the junction desperately needed the work.
"Certainly on a Friday when I am travelling around the constituency, whether you are coming down from the north into the city or from the south into Canwick Hill, you know you are going to get delayed there," he said.
"Obviously for the people nearby it will be a blessing when the works are done and for everyone who tries to get around the city."
Highways officials said they were planning to expand the capacity of the junction with two lanes in either direction.
They also promised to keep congestion to a minimum.
But businesses said they were concerned the work would put off customers.
Derek Overend, from Pitstop garage, on Canwick Hill, said: "What worries me is what happens during (the work) and how long will it take to do it?"
