Councillor Phillip Leivers charged with child sex offences
A Lincolnshire councillor has been charged with sexual offences involving a child.
Phillip Steven Leivers, 75, who represents Chapel St Leonards on East Lindsey District Council, has been charged with 22 offences.
They include eight counts of rape, six counts of gross indecency with a child and eight counts of inciting a child to commit an act of gross indecency.
He has been released on bail by the Metropolitan Police.
The alleged offences occurred between 1974 and 1982 and relate to one female victim, the force confirmed.
Mr Leivers is due to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on 14 October.
East Lindsey District Council said he had tendered his resignation.
