Heckington Windmill gets £1m Heritage Lottery funding

Heckington Windmill The mill is the only one of its type in England

Funding of about £1m has been awarded to England's only surviving eight-sailed windmill.

Heckington Windmill, in Heckington, Lincolnshire, received the money from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Manager Jim Bailey said the Heckington Windmill Trust wanted to restore the whole mill complex and create a world class visitor attraction with the cash.

He said he hoped visitor numbers would increase from 4,000 to 12,000 per year, bringing more trade to the area.
