Heavy snow and blizzard warning for Lincolnshire

Burton Road, Lincoln Motorists are being warned about driving conditions

People across Lincolnshire have been warned of heavy snow, with possible blizzards on higher ground.

A Met Office amber warning has been issued for Friday afternoon, with icy conditions expected on Saturday.

More than 10cm (4in) could fall on the higher ground in the Wolds, with between 5-10cm (2-4in) in other areas.

The snow will turn heavy and more persistent during the evening, leaving significant accumulations, before clearing the coast later in the night.

BBC weather forecaster Paul Hudson said: "There is going to be quite a lot of snow coming from the west and it is expected to reach the east coast by the early evening."

Lincolnshire County Council said gritting teams would be working to keep the main roads clear but advised motorists not to assume gritted routes were clear from icy patches.
