A memorial service for a Lincolnshire school boy who drowned while on holiday with his family in France has taken place in Grantham.

Pierre Barnes, 12, went missing on the French island of Porquerolle after going on a bike ride.

Children from Barrowby Church of England Primary School, where Pierre was a pupil, attended the memorial.

Pierre's father Stephen said he wanted to give the children who knew his son the opportunity to mourn.

The youngster went missing after going out on his bike a few hours after arriving on the Mediterranean island for a half-term holiday with his family on 27 October.

Pierre's body was found five days later in deep water, about a mile from where search teams had earlier found his bike and one of his shoes.

The memorial was held in a church near his primary school in Lincolnshire.
