Teenager detained for attacking Norwegian air officer

A teenager who carried out an unprovoked attack on a Norwegian air force officer visiting Lincoln has been detained for 12 months.

Aaron Riley punched Andreas Johansen to the ground and kicked and stamped on him while he lay in High Street.

The 19-year-old, of Addison Close, Navenby, Lincolnshire, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

The two-minute attack, on 23 May, was caught on CCTV and left the officer with injuries including a bloody nose.

Judge Michael Heath said it was a miracle he did not suffer more serious injuries.

Lincoln Crown Court was told Mr Johansen had been socialising with a friend in the city and was returning to his hotel at around 02:00 BST when Riley launched his attack.

The court heard he was left "shocked and appalled" by the experience.

Riley will serve his sentence in a young offenders institution.
