Lincoln City v Leicester City match cancelled
Police said they took the decision after consulting with the football club
A football match between Lincoln City and Leicester City was cancelled after police received information about plans for "serious disorder" at the game.
Police said they had been given reports Saturday's friendly match at Lincoln's Sincil Bank ground faced disruption.
Ch Insp Kieran English said extra officers would have been needed to ensure public safety.
Both clubs said anyone with tickets would get a refund.
Mr English said: "The risk to the public was too great.
"We understand fans will be disappointed about the cancellation of this match, but our primary concern is the safety and welfare of the general public."
A Leicester City spokesman said: "Leicester City is both surprised and saddened by the decision, but respects that it was taken on the advice of Lincolnshire Police."
