Pigs killed as lorry overturns on A157 near Louth

Fifty pigs have been killed after a lorry overturned in Lincolnshire.

The incident involving a two-tier trailer carrying 180 pigs happened on the A157 Station Road at Legbourne, near Louth, at about 07:55 BST.

Six fire crews were called out, along with the Environment Agency and the RSPCA.

About 20 pigs died and another 30 had to be put down later. Animal rescue teams transferred the remaining animals to another vehicle.

Station Road was closed as teams cleaned up diesel that spilled from the lorry but has since reopened.

The driver was not injured, police said.
