Grantham food bank helps poor to eat in Lincolnshire

A new food bank has been set up by a group of Lincolnshire churches to help people living in poverty in Grantham.

The churches will work with the Trussell Trust and a local supermarket from this weekend to encourage shoppers to donate essential foods and household items.

Ninety volunteers are being trained to run the project in Grantham in the South Kesteven district.

The food bank volunteers hope to help hundreds of people in the first year.

It is one of more than 100 food banks across the UK that are run in co-operation with the Trussell Trust.

Almost 11% of the 131,000 residents in South Kesteven district receive benefits.
