A 26-year-old man has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a father-of-three at a party in a Lincoln bar.

Stuart Whitelaw, 40, of Elder Street, Lincoln, was attacked in the Mezz Bar in Ruston Way, on 3 May.

The court heard Joe Palmer, of Allenby Close, Lincoln, carried out the "frenzied attack" in revenge for a previous attack on him in 2009.

Judge Michael Heath remanded Palmer into custody. He will be sentenced on 4 October at Lincoln Crown Court.

Mr Whitelaw was taken to Lincoln County Hospital following a 999 call but died of his injuries shortly afterwards, the court heard.

Michael Cranmer-Brown, prosecuting, told the hearing it was accepted that Palmer may not have intended to kill Mr Whitelaw.

A charge of perverting the course of justice against Palmer's girlfriend, Charmaine Wells, 22, of Allenby Close, Lincoln, was dropped by the prosecution.
