Man killed as car hits tree in Leicester

A 39-year-old man died and a 33-year-old man was seriously injured when the car they were in crashed into a tree in Leicester, police said.

The collision happened in Welford Road, near Knighton Lane East, at about 02:57 BST.

Leicestershire Police said a 46-year-old man was arrested in connection with the crash.

The force appealed for witnesses who saw a black BMW in the area at the time of the crash to contact them.

Police later named the dead man as Jonilal Manjhu from Wigston.
