'Nightmare' as Leicester homes infested with rats for seven months

8 May 2014 Last updated at 22:10 BST

Leicester residents are demanding action after rats have infested their homes for the past seven months.

Mary-Anne Gibbard said she has had to clear up droppings every day since rats "invaded" her home in October.

The rats have also got into her neighbour Kerry Pick's home, who said she feared for her family's health.

The city council said it had not been able to resolve the problem as quickly as it would have liked and has offered them alternative accommodation.

Helen Astle reports.
