M1 crash in Leicestershire: Long delays near Loughborough

Traffic on M1 after lorry crash Motorists faced queues of more than an hour after the crash

Motorists faced long delays after a section of the M1 in the East Midlands was closed following an accident involving two lorries.

The crash near Loughborough at 05:30 BST closed the southbound section of the motorway between junctions 22 and 23.

Emergency crews freed one of the lorry drivers using cutting equipment.

The motorway remained closed during most of the morning while an investigation took place.

Heavy traffic was reported in the Coalville, Loughborough, Shepshed and Markfield areas.

A police spokesman said one of the lorries was carrying 44 tonnes of timber.
