Three men have denied starting a fire at a Leicester house which killed a mother and her three children.

Shehnila Taufiq, 47, and her children Zainab, 19, Bilal, 17, and Jamil, 15, died in the fire in Wood Hill.

Kemo Porter, 18, Aaron Webb, 20 and Nathaniel Mullings, 19, all from Leicester, deny four murder charges in connection with the blaze.

They appeared at Birmingham Crown Court and will face a trial in Nottingham on 22 April.

Five co-defendants appeared at the same court in January.

Shaun Carter, 24, Jackson Powell, 20, Akeem Jeffers, 21, Tristan Richards, 22, and a youth, also deny the charges.

An admin error was the cause of the men not appearing in court on the same day. All eight defendants will go on trial together.

At the earlier hearing, the court was told that the case was linked to the murder of football coach Antoin Akpom on 12 September, the day before the fatal fire.

Hussain Hussain and Addul Hakim, both 19, will stand trial accused of his murder in April in Stafford.

The judge, Sir Charles Haddon-Cave QC, said there was enough "self-contained evidence" for separate trials.
