A man has been arrested after a pregnant woman was run over and killed by a car in Leicester.

Paige Jackson, 22, was struck by a black Volkswagen Jetta in Saffron Lane, near the Knighton Lane East junction, at about 06:50 GMT on Saturday.

She was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary but later died. The car driver was treated in hospital after the crash.

A 21-year-old man has now been arrested and released on bail.

Det Con Paul Bingham, who is leading the investigation, has urged witnesses or anyone who saw the car before the crash, which happened close to Aylestone Leisure Centre, to contact police.
