Sham marriage accused appear in court in Leicester

Thirteen people have appeared in court accused of taking part in an immigration scam which involved suspected sham marriages.

The suspects, who are Nigerian, Cameroonian and Portuguese nationals, were arrested in Leicester, Peterborough and around London.

The eight men and five women are accused of organising or taking part in sham marriages over a 10-year period.

They appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court and have been released on bail.

One man has also been charged with possessing a fake passport and a fake British identity document.

All the suspects are due to appear again at Leicester Crown Court later in January.
