Steffan Linnett admits Leicester street fight killing
A 19-year-old man has admitted killing another man in a fight in Leicester city centre.
Steffan Christian Linnett of Braunstone Avenue, Leicester, pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Leicester Crown Court.
Simon David Close, 39, of no fixed abode, was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken jaw during the fight on East Gates on 18 May.
He was taken to hospital but died from brain injuries the next day. Linnett is due to be sentenced on 10 January.
Leicestershire Police said Mr Close was punched in the face, causing him to fall to the ground and bang his head.
Det Insp Shaun Orton said: "This was a devastating incident, the death of Simon will not only affect his family but Linnett's family will have to live with the consequences of his actions.
"This was a totally avoidable criminal act and this case sends a very strong message to everyone that violent behaviour can lead to extremely serious consequences."
