A man has been killed in an accident involving a lift in Barcelona, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

Joe Smith, 24, a pub manager from Leicester, was on holiday with his girlfriend when the incident happened.

The Foreign Office confirmed it was aware of a British national's death in the Spanish city on 3 September.

A spokeswoman said: "We are in contact with the family and are providing consular assistance."

Leicestershire Police said they had not yet been made aware of the incident but would be liaising with police in Barcelona.
