Light aircraft crashes into Leicestershire field

A light aircraft carrying two people has crashed in a field in Leicestershire.

The plane crashed into the field near Wymeswold shortly before 20:00 BST.

Leicestershire Police said they were in the process of ensuring the immediate family of the people in the plane knew about the crash but have not released details of their condition.

The area around the scene is being made secure for the investigators who will look into the cause of the crash.

The inquiry will be carried out by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.

A spokeswoman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said the crash was reported to them at 19:48 and several ambulances were sent to the scene.
