A man who killed the mother of his two children when she asked for a divorce has been jailed for four years.
Leicester Crown Court was told Yacoub Rezai, 32, stabbed his wife Reihana Rezayi four times at their home in Leicester last November.
After killing the 23-year-old, Rezai drove to Reading with the two children, aged five and two, and handed himself in to police.
Earlier, a jury cleared him of murder but convicted him of manslaughter.
'My sister is dead'
The court heard that Rezai had been unhappy at the idea of divorce and on 13 November last year he stabbed his wife at their home on Hand Avenue.
Speaking after the trial Somayeah Rezayi, Reihana's sister, said: "Everything happened so suddenly and I still can't believe my sister is dead and her two children are deprived of both their mum and dad because their dad did such a terrible thing.
"If he had just thought of the children, maybe he would never have done what he did.
"I just want justice to be done fairly. My sister will not come back and all I can do is to look after her children like my own and I think that Reihana will rest in peace."
Det Ch Insp Simon Cure, who led the investigation team, paid tribute to the family and thanked the Afghan community in Leicester for help in solving the case.
"Rezai refused to accept his marriage was over and due to his actions two young children have lost their mother and he now faces a prison sentence with little or no contact with his children," he said.
"I hope today's result will help Reihana's family move on with their lives and put the events of last November behind them."
