Firefighters were called from across Leicestershire to tackle a blaze at a quarry which burnt through the night.

Flames and smoke could be seen for miles around Croft Quarry, between Enderby and Cosby, after the fire took hold at about 19:00 BST on Friday.

At its peak, 50 firefighters battled the burning building bringing it under control by 23:00 and eventually putting it out in the early hours of Saturday.

The cause is now being investigated and nobody was reported injured.

Specialist equipment, including a water carrier and aerial platforms were used to fight the fire which is thought to have involved a conveyor into the building.

Surveyors will examine the damage later on Saturday.
