Hole closes road in Loughborough town centre

The hole grew quickly in size, according to David Vickers, who filmed it

A busy road in the centre of a Leicestershire town has closed after a hole opened up in its surface.

Witness David Vickers said the hole in Woodgate, Loughborough, was initially a few inches in size but widened quickly on Saturday morning.

Mr Vickers said the 50cm (19 inch) hole is hollow and looks as if it has been "washed away".

The cause is not clear but while the road near the A6 is investigated, it will remain shut.
