Met Office predicts heavy snow in Leicestershire and Rutland

Snow has already caused problems on Leicestershire's roads in January

Heavy snow is expected in Leicestershire, with an aamber warning issued by the Met Office.

Forecasters are predicting snow fall from about 18:00 GMT on Friday and drivers are being warned to take care on the roads.

Between 4cm and 10cm (2in to 5in) could fall in the early evening and overnight, with ice predicted on Saturday.

Highways staff have been gritting with extra salt delivered on Friday morning.

Experts continue to warn drivers to plan ahead and warned of difficult conditions on the county's roads.

On 18 January, snow in Leicester caused traffic at rush hour to grind to a halt, with many vehicles getting stuck on the city's flyovers.

East Goscote snow warden Nick Shivers grits paths in the village and has got through about two-and-a-half tonnes of salt this winter.

He said: "We are just waiting to see what the weather brings us. We've gritted all down the paths, paying particular attention to outside the shops and older people's homes.

"We are ready to get out again first thing in the morning, the grit bins have all been filled ready."
