A court has ordered a psychiatric report into an 83-year-old woman who faces jail for abusing a family.

Great-grandmother Ethel Watkins, of Melton Mowbray, was found guilty of breaching a five-year restraining order banning her from contacting neighbours after a sustained hate campaign.

She was due to be sentenced on Wednesday but Loughborough magistrates agreed to a request for the report.

In December the widow denied the breach but the court disagreed.

At a hearing in summer 2012, Watkins admitted carrying out a campaign against the family-of-four, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

But in December, magistrates were told she verbally abused her victims again the day after the order was imposed and, finding her guilty, warned she could be jailed.

She will be sentenced on 20 March at Loughborough Magistrates' Court.
