Ice warning for Leicestershire

People in villages in Rutland struggled to get off their roads and into work on Monday.

Motorists are being warned of hazardous driving conditions as freezing temperatures and fog hits the county.

A Met Office yellow warning remains in place for Leicestershire and Rutland, with a risk of ice on untreated roads.

Leicestershire County Council gritters have been out overnight and Rutland County Council said they had cleared major roads to make conditions safe.

On Monday, around 250 schools were closed after up to 5cm (2in) of snow fell in places.

East Midlands Airport was also closed for several hours with more than 30 flights affected and there were disruptions to public transport.

Royal Mail deliveries were also suspended in Market Harborough.

Normal delivery services and public transport services are expected to resume on Tuesday although around 15 schools in the region remain closed.
