East Midlands Airport suspends flights after snow

About 20 flights in and out of East Midlands Airport have been cancelled, or diverted, after heavy snowfall.

An airport spokeswoman advised passengers to check with their airline or tour operator for the latest up-to-date information on their flight.

The airport is expected to remain closed for several hours to allow for snow to be cleared from the runway.

Several roads in Leicestershire are also affected, with motorists advised to avoid unnecessary journeys.

East Midlands Trains said services were running as normal but advised passengers to check before travelling.

Up to 5cm (2in) of snow fell in parts of the county on Friday - with more snow flurries expected across the weekend.
