Margaret Mitton named as New Year's Eve car crash victim

A 79-year-old woman who died in a car crash on New Year's Eve has been named as Margaret Mitton.

She was driving a silver Peugeot 106 which was in collision with a black Fiat Panda on the Lutterworth Road at the junction with Countesthorpe Road near Whetstone.

Ms Mitton, of Countesthorpe, was pronounced dead at the scene and three others required hospital treatment.

Leicestershire police are investigating and have appealed for witnesses.

Ms Mitton's Peugeot was travelling along the Countesthorpe Road from the direction of Countesthorpe, while the Fiat was on the A426 towards Lutterworth when the collision happened at about 11:30 GMT on Monday.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who saw the vehicles before the crash or the collision itself to contact them.
