Designs for a new £4m public space in Leicester city centre have been released by the local council.
Leicester City Council is seeking views on the Jubilee Square plans which would take up around 50 car parking spaces at Saint Nicholas Place.
The authority said the area could be used for events and festivals, and help boost tourism.
Nearby business owners have said the proposals to reduce parking could hit their trade.
Keehan Vale, who runs a bar near to the location, said: "We have a lot of business from people parking their cars and going out for a nice meal. The car park is massively used."
Sir Peter Soulsby, the city's mayor, said the space could be a place where shoppers sit and relax.
People have until 19 December to comment on the new designs.
