A complaint about payments to senior Labour MP Keith Vaz will not be investigated further.

Last month a newspaper article examined alleged financial impropriety by the Leicester East MP, which was originally investigated in 2001.

The Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire, Andrew Bridgen, then raised the issue with the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.

The commissioner has now said there is nothing to justify a new inquiry.

Immediately after the newspaper article, Mr Vaz, the chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, denied that large payments to his bank account were "suspicious in any way".
