Sexual assault on 12-year-old girl: Police appeal for witnesses

A 12-year-old girl was the victim of a sexual assault on a footpath in Leicestershire, police said.

Officers said a 14-year-old boy has been charged and remanded in custody in connection with the assault which they said took place last month.

They are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened near Lubbesthorpe Way, in Leicester on 17 September.

The teenager is due to appear before Leicester Youth Court later this month.

Officers said the assault was carried out by a person who was known to the schoolgirl.

Det Con James Cavendish said: "From enquiries we've carried out we would appeal to anyone who used the footpath which connects Thorpe Astley with the bridge between Columbine Close and Kingsway North around the time of the incident to contact us."

Officer said they believed a number of cyclists and pedestrians would have been using the footpath which runs alongside Lubbesthorpe Way and also the underpass which runs under Lubbesthorpe Way at around 18:00 BST.
