Baby boy dies after Leicester crash

Two men with the children were also injured

A one-year-old boy has died and a two-year-old girl is in a critical condition after two cars collided in Leicester.

Police said the children were in pushchairs at the junction of Narborough Road and Braunstone Gate when the BMW and Mini Cooper collided at about 09:50 BST.

Two men pushing the pushchairs suffered minor injuries.

A 40-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man were arrested over the crash.

They were later released on police bail.

Bob Young, from First Alarms on Braunstone Gate, said his CCTV system recorded the incident and he had offered the footage to police.

"It is very shocking because (the pictures) are very graphic and it shows you exactly what happened," he said.

"People were there instantly. From the accident, people ran to their aid in moments - the people's reaction time was fabulous."

The scene has been cordoned off and police have appealed for witnesses.
