Loughborough canal group get new boat after arson attack
The boat will be used to clear debris from the local network of canals
A canal conservation group from Leicestershire that had its boat destroyed in an arson attack has been given a new one by a local boatyard.
The Loughborough-based Clear Cut Conservation group had their boat attacked in May.
Thieves stole the engine and set the aluminium craft alight.
Boatyard owner Mark Harris heard about the crime and with help from local suppliers and public donations built a new vessel.
Group volunteer Barrie Ball said: "It's fantastic news - the number of people who have donated parts and money is unbelievable.
"It leaves a lump in your throat," he said.
The group bought their first boat in 2010 after winning a £3,000 community award.
It took two years to restore and was used to clear local canals of debris and rubbish.
