Drivers face bus lane fines in Leicester

Fines have come into force for motorists in Leicester who illegally drive in bus lanes, after a two-week grace period.

Leicester City Council sought permission from the Department of Transport to issue the £60 fines.

The council has installed digital cameras along bus lanes and also has a mobile unit.

Almost 250 drivers were caught using the lanes in the first five days but fines will start from Monday.

The new powers are initially be used at Causeway Lane and Charles Street and then rolled out across the city.
