Victoria Park warning after spate of robberies

Police in Leicester are urging people to be vigilant after a spate of robberies in the Victoria Park area.

Leicestershire Police said there had been six robberies and two thefts in the area since 8 January, the latest robbery being on Wednesday.

That evening, a 22-year-old man was walking through the park when he was assaulted and had his phone stolen.

Police said investigations were under way to confirm whether or not all the crimes were linked.

'Safety precautions'

Det Con Jon Davies, from Leicestershire Police, said: "Officers are looking into a number of lines of inquiry and working hard to try to locate those responsible for these incidents.

"We would urge everyone who uses this park, particularly in the dark to take a few personal safety precautions."

Det Con Davies' advice included walking with friends rather than alone, sticking to lit routes and keeping valuables out of sight.

Anyone who has information about the robberies or thefts is asked to contact Leicestershire Police.
