Groups are being invited to bid to run Leicester's revamped bike park.

The secure site, under the town hall, can hold 200 bikes and includes showers, toilets and lockers.

A £150,000 revamp which has seen facilities be upgraded, some structure problems remedied and a swipe card system installed, is near completion.

The city council, which took over direct management of the site in January, said a possible seven-year lease was on offer to new operators.

Andy Salkeld, the city council cycling co-ordinator, said: "The number of people cycling in Leicester has more than doubled in the last five years and there is a clear demand for facilities to support this.

"The bike park is ideally located and with a major refurbishment almost complete, is set to become an even greater asset for the city"
