A Leicester man has recycled more than 11,000 aluminium cans collected from the streets around his home.

Adrian Ablett, 38, patrols the city's West End with a modified wheelie bin up to four evenings a week, keeping his eye out for discarded cans.

He then takes his stash to be recycled at a local supermarket, earning points on his loyalty card in return.

"I'm very passionate about the environment - it doesn't take much and we should all be recycling," he said.

"David Cameron talks about the Big Society and I think everyone should do their bit, like I do - but, unfortunately, too many people don't give a monkey's."

Adrian Lane, from Leicester City Council, said Mr Ablett was "making a difference" to his environment and setting a good example to others.
