Man arrested over canal towpath killing in Leeds

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman who died after an attack on a canal towpath.

The 38-year-old was discovered with serious head injuries off Canal Road in Armley, Leeds, on Thursday afternoon.

She was taken to Leeds General Infirmary but was pronounced dead a short time later.

West Yorkshire Police said a 53-year-old man was being questioned by detectives.

Det Ch Insp Jim Dunkerley said: "We have spoken to a number of members of the public who witnessed the incident and gave first aid to the injured woman but we would still like to hear from any other witnesses or anyone with any information that could assist the investigation."
