Cromwell Mount, Leeds The toddler was hit by a car on Cromwell Mount, a residential street in Belle Isle, Leeds

A toddler has died after being hit by a car thought to be driven by her father.

A black Toyota Avensis struck the 15-month-old girl in Cromwell Mount in Belle Isle, Leeds, at about 19:30 BST on Saturday.

She was taken to Leeds General Infirmary but was pronounced dead a short time later, West Yorkshire Police said.

The driver of the car, understood to be the girl's father, has been spoken to by officers, the force added.

Sgt Carl Quinn said: "We are conducting a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding this child's death, although early indications are that this appears to have been a tragic accident.

"We are working closely with the child's family to support them at what will clearly be a very difficult time for them."
