Woman's body found under car in Cleckheaton

A man has been arrested after the body of a woman was found under a car in West Yorkshire.

A passer-by reported finding the body under a Vauxhall Omega in Prospect Street, Cleckheaton in the early hours of Sunday, West Yorkshire Police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She has not yet been identified.

A 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drinking and driving. He was released on bail.

    More than 20 venues in Leeds were caught selling illicit tobacco products in an undercover sting.

    Continental shops, a city centre pub and a retailer close to Leeds' universities were allegedly among those flogging counterfeit tobacco and illicit whites - cigarettes that have been smuggled into the UK from abroad.

    The deadline to apply for a grant from the Ann Maguire Fund closes at 17:00 today.

    The fund focuses on arts education and was set up in memory of Mrs Maguire who was murdered by schoolboy Will Cornick at Corpus Christi College, in Leeds, last April.

    09:30: Woodhead pass reopens

    We've just heard that the A628 Woodhead Pass has been cleared of snow and is now open. The road had been closed between the A616 Flouch roundabout and A57 Woolley Lane.

    Elsewhere on the roads TransDev Keighley have tweeted: SNOW UPDATE 0850 - All services operating normal line of route. Aviva Yorkshire are also tweeting good news: All services running normally at this time.

    In South Yorkshire, Travel South Yorkshire has tweeted a link to the latest news on tram, train and bus services in the region.

    West Yorkshire Police have posted this sobering image of a badly damaged vehicle on its Facebook page and warned motorists to take care on the roads.

    A force spokesman said: "Please drive to the conditions, it is very icy out there this morning. Take care and slow down."

    Several schools across South Yorkshire have been in touch to say they will be closed today or will be opening later than usual.

    West Yorkshire Police are urging people to use extreme care on roads and pavements today.

    A force spokesperson said: "Depending on where you live, we have it all; snow, slush, frozen slush, and black ice."

    08:03: Woodhead Pass closed

    BBC Travel reports that the A628 Woodhead Pass is closed in both directions between Flouch roundabout in Langsett and Gun Inn Traffic Lights in Greater Manchester, because of snow.
