A man whose body was found in woods after he was shot has been named by police.

Colin Pierre, 31, from Gipton in Leeds, was found by schoolchildren in woods in the city at about 08:00 GMT on Tuesday.

He was found dead in a beck near the junction of Gledhow Valley Road and Gledhow Lane in Chapel Allerton.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Pierre, who was also known as Craig, was shot once with a shotgun and bled to death, West Yorkshire Police said.

Det Supt Simon Beldon said the victim had a six-year-old daughter and his family were "utterly distraught".

It is thought Mr Pierre was shot at about 02:00 on Tuesday, the force said. Officers are appealing for any potential witnesses to come forward.

The shooting appeared to be a targeted attack without any wider risk to the public, police said.
