Man's body found in Leeds wood starts murder case

The 31-year-old man whose body was discovered by two schoolboys in woodland had been shot, police have said.

The body was found on land off Gledhow Valley Road, in Chapel Allerton, Leeds, at about 08:15 GMT on Tuesday.

West Yorkshire Police said the man was from Leeds but they were not yet in a position to release his name.

A murder investigation has begun and detectives are keen to speak to anyone in the area "who heard a bang".

Det Supt Simon Beldon said he thought it had been a "targeted attack".

He added a post-mortem examination was due to be carried out.
