Leeds community groups urged to bid for extra cash

Armley Community groups in Armley are among those being urged to apply for the extra funding

Community groups in west Leeds have been urged to apply for a share of £130,000 extra council funding.

Groups in Stanningley, Armley and Bramley have been offered the cash by the Leeds inner west area committee.

Committee chair Caroline Gruen said organisations which made "a real difference" to their local areas would be considered for an award.

The funding would be spent "in the interest of people living in our communities", she said.

"We want a happy, healthy, active community and we are particularly keen to see more young people getting jobs, more families enjoying a good standard of housing and an attractive outdoor environment."

The support grants will come from the area committee's Wellbeing Fund, Ms Gruen added.

The deadline to submit a funding application is Monday 20 January.
