An 11-storey office building for 2,500 workers and leisure facilities, called Central Square, are now planned.

A public consultation is to be held ahead of a planning application and work could start in 2014, said developers Roydhouse Properties.

Plans for the new 225,000 sq ft project include a sky garden, restaurants, bars and a gym.

Glass towers

If planning permission is granted construction could be completed by mid-2016, the developers said.

The firm behind the Lumiere scheme sought liquidation in 2010.

Millions of pounds worth of investor deposits were frozen when the scheme was put on hold in 2008,

It was to include two glass towers of 54 and 32-storeys and was approved by council planners in 2007.
