Batley man in court on drug smuggling charge

A man accused of trying to smuggle heroin with a street value of more than £400,000 has appeared in court.

Adil Zaki, 43, from Batley, was arrested after Border Force officers found 17lb (8kg) of the drug in a suitcase at Manchester Airport.

Mr Zaki was stopped on 20 October after arriving on a flight from Pakistan.

He appeared at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court charged with drug smuggling. No plea was entered. He was remanded in custody until 22 January.
