Traffic delays on the M1 motorway as a result of the crash Drivers were being warned of major delays on the motorway

A man has been killed in a crash on the M1 in West Yorkshire.

Police said a Chevrolet car and a Ford Transit van collided while travelling on the northbound carriageway near junction 42, at about 12:40 BST.

A man in his 60s, who was driving the car, died at the scene. A female passenger, also in her 60s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Drivers were being warned of delays as the motorway was closed at junction 42, with a diversion in place.

Police said it was believed the car may have been driven slowly, or was stationary, before the crash due to a fault with the vehicle.

Witnesses are being asked to come forward.
