Sidney Cox death: Man in court charged with murder

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 57-year-old man who died after being attacked in his home.

Sidney Cox was seriously injured in Middleton Lane, Thorpe, on 24 August, and died the following day.

Michael Valance Dear, 39, of Norton Common Road, Askern, Doncaster, was remanded in custody at Leeds Magistrates' Court.

He is expected to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 20 September.

Another man, Karl Gaskin, 40, is still being sought in connection with the death, West Yorkshire Police said.

Mr Gaskin is described as white, about 5ft 11in (1.8m) tall, of medium build and with dark brown hair.

Anyone who sees Mr Gaskin should not approach him and should contact officers immediately, police said.
